Double Chin or Skin Laxity? What to Discuss Before a Lifting Treatment
Concerned about fullness beneath your chin or a less defined jawline? Start with your skin, goals and schedule before choosing a device or number of sessions.

Welcome to RE:NINE Clinic.
Does the area beneath your chin look fuller in photos than in the mirror? A softer jawline may lead you to search for lifting treatments, where names such as ONDA, Ultherapy and Sofwave appear.
People with a similar concern may need different assessments. Before choosing a treatment or counting sessions, here are some useful points to discuss at a consultation.
1. Look at both fullness and loose skin
Fat and loose skin can both contribute to the appearance of a double chin. Facial and chin contours also vary, so a photograph or your body weight alone cannot establish the cause.
Describe the area that bothers you: fullness beneath the chin, sagging beside the cheeks or jawline, or a less distinct boundary between the chin and neck. Examining your skin and contours helps guide a discussion about what to assess first.

2. Define your goal before choosing a device
Treatments described as lifting do not all work in the same way. Nonsurgical skin-tightening options include ultrasound and radiofrequency, with different approaches even when the intended goal is similar.
Rather than assuming one device suits every face, ask whether a treatment is appropriate for your concern and what its possibilities and limits are. If a combination is proposed, ask about the purpose of each treatment, why it is needed, and the order and intervals.
- What should be assessed first in my case?
- Which area does this treatment address, and for what purpose?
- What changes might be realistic for me, and what may be difficult?
- If treatments are combined, why is each one needed?
3. Share previous treatments and your current health
Tell the clinician when and where you have had lifting treatments, fillers or thread lifts. Also discuss medications, conditions under treatment, skin inflammation or wounds, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. These details need to be considered when assessing suitability and planning care.
Do not stop medication or arrange another procedure on your own to prepare. Begin by sharing accurate information and checking the clinician's guidance.

4. Include travel and important dates in your consultation
Nonsurgical skin tightening can involve discomfort, redness or swelling, and changes may develop gradually. A treatment does not guarantee the appearance you want on the same day, and recovery varies.
If you are visiting Korea or have a photo shoot or event planned, share the dates. Ask about expected reactions, treatment-specific risks, aftercare, follow-up timing and how to contact the clinic after returning home. Discuss a feasible plan rather than adding procedures to fit a short trip.
Frequently asked questions
Q1. Can I ask about a double chin if I am not overweight?
Body weight alone does not determine the assessment. Loose skin and facial contours may also be considered. Explain the area that concerns you and the change you hope for.
Q2. Do I need to choose a treatment and session count beforehand?
No. You can mention treatments that interest you, then discuss suitability, treatment area, sessions and intervals after an assessment.
Q3. Can I have a consultation and treatment on the same day during a trip to Korea?
Appointment availability does not guarantee suitability for treatment. Share your preferred visit and departure dates in advance. Depending on your condition, the visit may be consultation-only or treatment may be postponed. Ask how follow-up would be arranged.
