After filler injections, you may look in the mirror and wonder whether the swelling is expected. Another person’s photograph or a fixed number of days is not enough to judge your recovery. Consider the product, treated area and how your symptoms are changing. Following our comparison of Radiesse and hyaluronic acid fillers, this article focuses on observation and when to seek help.

Watch the trend, rather than a universal deadline

Swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness can occur at injection sites. Recovery differs with the area and individual circumstances, even with the same product. Tell the treating clinician when a change began and whether discomfort is easing or worsening, rather than assuming everyone recovers in the same number of days.

These signs need immediate medical assessment

Unusual severe pain, white, grey or blue skin near an injection site, or changes in vision require immediate medical assessment. For vision changes, sudden difficulty speaking, weakness on one side or breathing difficulty, do not wait for a chat reply: call 119 in South Korea or seek emergency care immediately.

New swelling, firm nodules, drainage from a wound, or worsening pain or redness later on should not automatically be treated as routine recovery. Contact the treating clinic for assessment and describe when the symptoms started and how they have changed.

Check your instructions before touching or massaging

Aftercare varies by product. Do not press or rub an area simply because it feels uneven; ask whether massage is appropriate. Follow your individual instructions for cold compresses, washing, makeup and returning to exercise. Discuss medicines with your clinician instead of stopping a prescription or adding medication on your own.

Keep records and contact details when travelling

Before departure, keep the product name, treatment date, treated area and aftercare instructions. Confirm contact details and a follow-up plan. Mention important travel or photography dates during consultation. If concerning symptoms develop abroad, seek local medical assessment rather than waiting only for a message from the original clinic.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Does any bruising or swelling mean a complication?

These reactions can occur after injections, but their severity and progression matter. Seek medical assessment if symptoms worsen or seem unusual. An online article cannot determine whether your own recovery is normal.

Q. Can I massage an area that feels lumpy?

Instructions differ with the product and treatment plan. Do not press or massage it on your own; check with the treating clinician.

Q. Can a photograph tell me whether it is safe to wait?

A photograph may help explain a change but cannot replace an examination. Severe pain, skin colour changes or vision changes need immediate assessment, not a wait for photo advice.
